World Cup 2023: The World Cup 2023, hosted by India, is scheduled to start on October 5. Before that, the Australian team is playing an ODI series in South Africa.

During the fourth ODI against South Africa (SA vs AUS), Travis Head was hit on the hand while pulling a short ball from fast bowler Gerald Coetzee.

Travis Head started groaning after being hit on the left hand by the ball. The physio came and checked him and the Australian batsman left the field.

He did not come out to play twice. The head was then sent for scanning. Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said after the match that a scan had confirmed a fracture in Head’s left hand. Further scans on Saturday are expected to reveal the severity of the fracture.

Australia coach Andrew McDonald said that it is difficult to tell whether Travis Head will be fit for the World Cup or not.

He said- Right now only the fracture has been confirmed and it is difficult to tell how much time it will take.

The World Cup is approaching and so our fingers are crossed. I am no medical person, but I think the injury is a little above the index finger. But I don’t know what it is called.

Head has been rocking since its comeback

Travis Head was dropped from the ODI team after 2018. He returned on Pakistan tour in 2022. In the very first match, he scored a century while opening the match.

Head, who initially played in the middle order, has been opening since then. Since his return, Head has scored 791 runs in 16 ODIs at an average of 61.

This also includes two centuries. These runs have been scored by Head at a strike rate of around 120. Therefore his importance in the World Cup is immense.
